Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SCP-oil is the volatile oil extracted from the rhizome of *Acorus tatarinowii* Schott (SCP), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is being investigated for its neuroprotective and cognitive-improving effects in Alzheimer's disease (AD), specifically targeting AD-associated insulin resistance (AD-IR). The oil contains approximately 25 chemical constituents and exerts its therapeutic effects by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. This activation leads to the inhibition of neuronal apoptosis, reduction of amyloid-beta (Aβ) deposition, and decrease in tau protein hyperphosphorylation. Preclinical studies using intracerebroventricular streptozotocin (ICV-STZ) models have demonstrated that SCP-oil can significantly improve cognitive dysfunction and pathological damage in the brain.
