ACP1 inhibitors are a class of therapeutic agents designed to inhibit the activity of Acid Phosphatase 1 (ACP1), also known as Low Molecular Weight Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase (LMW-PTP). ACP1 is a cytosolic phosphatase that plays a critical role in regulating various signaling pathways, including those involving Ephrin A2 (EPHA2), Src, and insulin receptors. In the context of oncology, particularly glioblastoma, ACP1 dephosphorylates EPHA2, which in turn modulates the actin cytoskeleton, cell adhesion, and invasive potential of tumor cells. Inhibition of ACP1 is being explored as a strategy to disrupt the invasive phenotype of glioblastoma and other cancers. Additionally, ACP1 is a known negative regulator of insulin signaling, making its inhibition a potential therapeutic approach for metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.
