Acridine carboxamide is a synthetic small molecule and investigational chemotherapy agent belonging to the class of topoisomerase inhibitors. It is a tricyclic acridine-based compound that acts as a dual inhibitor of DNA topoisomerases I and II, intercalating into DNA and thereby disrupting DNA repair, replication, RNA synthesis, and protein synthesis. This leads to DNA damage and cell death. Acridine carboxamide was initially developed for its potential antineoplastic (anticancer) activity and has been studied in clinical trials for various cancers including lung cancer, brain tumors (such as glioblastoma multiforme), colorectal cancer, and other central nervous system tumors. While it was well tolerated in Phase II trials, it did not demonstrate significant efficacy against these cancers[1][2][3][4][5].
