Overview

Acrylfentanyl is a **highly potent synthetic opioid analgesic** and a structural **analogue of fentanyl**. It is classified as a novel psychoactive substance and has featured in the illicit drug market as a designer drug. Acrylfentanyl acts primarily as a **partial agonist of the mu-opioid receptor** and produces classical opioid effects such as **analgesia, euphoria, and potentially fatal respiratory depression**. Its potency is slightly higher than that of fentanyl itself (IC50 to displace naloxone is 1.4 nM versus 1.6 nM for fentanyl) and it is associated with a somewhat longer duration of action[4][1][5]. Acrylfentanyl has **no accepted medical use** and is a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States[3][4]. It has been linked to clusters of fatal overdoses and is encountered in powder form or in solution for illicit use[7][9]. Its mechanism of action—mu-opioid receptor agonism—places it alongside other opioid narcotics of high abuse potential.
