ACT-20-MSC is an allogeneic cell therapy product consisting of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs). Developed by American Cell Technology, it is designed to leverage the innate immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties of MSCs. The cells are typically administered intravenously, often in conjunction with ACT-20-CM (conditioned media), to treat inflammatory conditions such as moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia. The therapeutic rationale involves the secretion of paracrine factors that suppress the 'cytokine storm' and facilitate the repair of damaged alveolar tissue. In clinical trials, it has been evaluated both as a standalone cell suspension and in combination with the conditioned media derived from the same cell culture process.
