Overview

Actacel is a quadrivalent combination vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur for the active immunization of infants and children against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). The vaccine combines diphtheria and tetanus toxoids with acellular pertussis antigens—specifically pertussis toxoid (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), and fimbriae types 2 and 3 (FIM2/3)—and the Hib capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate) conjugated to a tetanus protein carrier (PRP-T). By integrating these four components into a single injection, Actacel simplifies pediatric vaccination schedules and improves compliance while maintaining immunogenicity comparable to separate DTaP and Hib vaccines. It is primarily used in primary and booster vaccination series for healthy infants.
