Overview
Acthar Gel SelfJect is a single-dose, pre-filled self-injector containing repository corticotropin injection, developed by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. It is a biologic natural hormone consisting of a complex mixture of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) analogs and other pituitary peptides. The drug acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors (MCRs), exerting anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, nephrotic syndrome, and various rheumatic disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. The SelfJect device is designed for subcutaneous self-administration by adults, featuring a hidden needle to enhance safety and ease of use.
