Overview

EFF1001 is an oral preparation of *Actinidia arguta* (hardy kiwi) extract investigated as an adjunctive therapy for canine atopic dermatitis. In randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in dogs with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, EFF1001 was shown to be beneficial after prolonged use. The mechanism of action appears to involve modulation of immune responses associated with atopic dermatitis—specifically reducing serum IgE and IgG(1), decreasing interleukin-4 (IL-4), increasing interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and upregulating Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR-9). These effects suggest a shift from Th2-mediated allergic responses toward Th1-type immunity and possible enhancement of innate immune signaling. The product is derived from the fruit of the hardy kiwi plant[1][2][6].
