actinonin

Actinonin is a naturally occurring hydroxamic acid antibiotic originally isolated from Streptomyces species. It is a small molecule inhibitor of peptide deformylase, an enzyme involved in the removal of formyl groups from nascent proteins during bacterial protein synthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, actinonin disrupts bacterial growth and has been studied for its antibacterial properties. Additionally, it has been investigated as an experimental tool compound in research on metalloproteases and related enzymes[1][2]. Its primary use remains experimental; it is not approved for clinical use.
