Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Actiskenan is an immediate-release oral formulation of morphine sulfate, a potent opioid analgesic. It acts primarily as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, inhibiting ascending pain pathways and altering the perception of and response to pain. Actiskenan is typically indicated for the management of severe acute pain or breakthrough pain in patients already receiving long-term opioid therapy. In clinical settings, it is often compared to other rapid-acting analgesics, such as intranasal sufentanil, for the early management of severe pain in emergency departments. It is the fast-acting counterpart to the sustained-release morphine formulation, Skenan.
