Overview

This is an experimental adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by the Royan Institute for the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The therapy utilizes natural killer (NK) cells harvested from a haploidentical (partially matched) donor, which are then activated and expanded *ex vivo* to enhance their anti-tumor potency. These activated allogeneic NK cells are administered via direct injection into the tumor resection cavity following surgery. The mechanism of action relies on the innate ability of NK cells to recognize and destroy malignant cells through the secretion of cytotoxic granules (perforin and granzymes) and the induction of apoptosis via death receptor pathways, bypassing the need for major histocompatibility complex (MHC) matching that limits T-cell therapies.
