Overview

AKT-DC is an autologous adoptive cell therapy protocol involving the co-administration of activated killer T cells (AKT) and dendritic cells (DC). Developed primarily for the adjuvant treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following surgical resection, the therapy utilizes cells harvested from the patient's own regional lymph nodes. The dendritic cells function as professional antigen-presenting cells to stimulate a systemic immune response, while the activated killer T cells exert direct cytotoxic effects on residual tumor cells and micrometastases. A Phase III randomized controlled trial demonstrated that the addition of AKT-DC to standard chemotherapy significantly improved 5-year overall survival and recurrence-free survival in NSCLC patients.
