Activated umbilical cord blood T cells is an experimental adoptive cell-based immunotherapy being investigated by the First Teaching Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University. The therapy involves the ex vivo activation and expansion of T cells derived from umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (UCBMCs). Unlike traditional autologous T cell therapies, this approach utilizes allogeneic T cells from cord blood, which are characterized by a more naive phenotype and potentially lower risk of graft-versus-host disease. The activated cells are administered to patients to enhance the immune system's ability to recognize and eliminate cancer cells. It is currently being studied in clinical trials for the treatment of solid tumors, including small cell lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and primary liver cancer.
