Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ActivBraid is a structural medical device and biologic composed of a dehydrated human placental collagen matrix, processed into a braided suture-like format. Developed by MiMedx, it is primarily indicated for the reinforcement and repair of tendons and ligaments in orthopedic and sports medicine applications. The product leverages the inherent biocompatibility and mechanical strength of placental-derived Type I, III, and IV collagen to provide a structural scaffold that supports cellular attachment, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Unlike synthetic sutures, ActivBraid is designed to integrate into the host tissue over time, facilitating a more natural healing process by utilizing the complex extracellular matrix components found in placental tissue. It is intended to offer a biological alternative or supplement to traditional fixation methods, aiming to improve long-term functional outcomes in reconstructive procedures.
