active oxygen gel

Active oxygen gel is a topical therapeutic formulation used primarily in dentistry to accelerate wound healing and manage periodontal conditions. The gel works by releasing active oxygen into the wound site, increasing local oxygen tension which stimulates angiogenesis, enhances fibroblast activity, and promotes collagen synthesis. Additionally, the oxidative environment created by the gel is toxic to anaerobic bacteria, providing a localized antimicrobial effect without the use of traditional antibiotics. A prominent example is the Blue®m oral gel, which often incorporates lactoferrin to further support the immune response and tissue regeneration. It is currently being investigated for its efficacy in healing palatal donor sites following free gingival graft procedures.
