Overview

Actoxumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed for the prevention of recurrence of *Clostridioides difficile* infection (CDI). It specifically targets and neutralizes toxin A (TcdA), one of the two major exotoxins produced by *C. difficile*, thereby inhibiting the first step in the intoxication cascade and preventing toxin binding to host cells. Actoxumab was initially developed by Medarex and MassBiologics, later licensed to Merck & Co. for further development and commercialization. Although it reached Phase 3 clinical trials, studies found that co-administration with bezlotoxumab (which targets toxin B) did not provide additional benefit over bezlotoxumab alone[1][2][5][8].
