ACWY Vax

ACWY Vax is a quadrivalent, inactivated polysaccharide vaccine developed by GSK for active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine is a biologic composed of purified capsular polysaccharides from these four bacterial serogroups, which act as the active immunogenic components. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce bactericidal antibodies against the capsular polysaccharides of these specific serogroups. Unlike conjugate vaccines, ACWY Vax consists of plain polysaccharides and does not contain live bacteria. It is administered via subcutaneous injection and is indicated for use in children from two years of age, adolescents, and adults, particularly those traveling to regions where meningococcal disease is endemic, such as for the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage.
