Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The ACYW135 Meningococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine designed to provide active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W135. The vaccine contains purified capsular polysaccharides from each of these four serogroups. Unlike conjugate vaccines, these polysaccharides are not chemically linked to a carrier protein, making them effective primarily in older children and adults by stimulating the production of group-specific bactericidal antibodies. Several major Chinese biopharmaceutical companies, including Walvax Biotechnology, Hualan Biological Engineering, and Zhifei Lvzhu, have developed versions of this vaccine, which are frequently used as active controls in clinical trials for newer conjugate formulations.
