Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The ACYW135X meningococcal conjugate vaccine is a pentavalent vaccine candidate developed by Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd. for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis*. It is designed to provide broader protection than existing quadrivalent (ACYW135) vaccines by including the serogroup X polysaccharide, which has been identified as an increasing threat in certain regions, particularly sub-Saharan Africa. The vaccine consists of capsular polysaccharides from serogroups A, C, Y, W135, and X, each individually conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity, particularly in young children, by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. As of 2023, the vaccine is undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety and immunogenicity in healthy individuals aged 2 to 59 years.
