Overview

Rebamipide (AD-203) is a new sustained-release formulation of rebamipide, an amino acid derivative of 2-quinolinone. It acts as a mucoprotective agent primarily used to treat gastritis and peptic ulcers. The drug enhances the gastric mucosal defense system through several mechanisms, including inhibition of reactive oxygen species, stimulation of prostaglandin production (notably via the prostaglandin EP4 receptor), and scavenging oxygen radicals. AD-203 is formulated for twice-daily dosing at 150 mg and has demonstrated non-inferiority in efficacy and safety compared to the standard thrice-daily 100 mg formulation (Mucosta) in phase 3 clinical trials for erosive gastritis[2][5][6]. Developed by Addpharma, a subsidiary of Yuhan, it offers improved patient convenience by reducing administration frequency while maintaining therapeutic effectiveness[1][5].
