Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AD-234 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by Addpharma, a subsidiary of Yuhan Corporation, for the treatment of acute and chronic gastritis. It combines two mucosal protective agents: artemisia asiatica extract (a botanical extract derived from mugwort) and rebamipide (a gastroprotective small molecule). Artemisia asiatica extract works by enhancing gastric mucosal defense through the stimulation of mucus secretion and the increase of endogenous prostaglandin levels. Rebamipide complements this by inducing prostaglandin E2 synthesis, scavenging reactive oxygen species, and inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. This combination is designed to provide synergistic gastroprotective effects, promoting the healing of gastric mucosal lesions and protecting against further damage. AD-234 has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea, demonstrating its efficacy and safety in patients with gastritis.
