AD-700, also known as Image-Ab, is a first-in-class nanoparticulate contrast agent developed by Adiposs S.A. for the non-invasive detection and quantification of brown adipose tissue (BAT) using computed tomography (CT) imaging. Unlike traditional metabolic imaging techniques like 18F-FDG PET/CT, which require radioactive tracers and cold exposure to activate BAT, AD-700 is a non-radioactive, iodine-based nanoparticle that specifically accumulates in active BAT. This allows for the assessment of metabolic health and the monitoring of tissue "browning" (the conversion of white adipose tissue to brown-like adipose tissue), which is highly relevant in the management of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer-associated cachexia. By providing a safer and more accessible method to visualize BAT activity, AD-700 serves as both a diagnostic tool for metabolic dysfunction and a biomarker for evaluating the efficacy of metabolic therapies.
