Overview

AD-PluReceptor is an experimental gene therapy candidate designed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It utilizes an adenoviral vector (Ad) to deliver a gene encoding a chimeric receptor, referred to as the PluReceptor, into target cells within the central nervous system. The mechanism of action involves the expression of this receptor to modulate specific pathological pathways associated with neurodegeneration, such as the clearance of amyloid-beta plaques or the stabilization of neuronal signaling. Developed primarily in academic and early-stage biotech research settings, the therapy aims to provide a long-term solution by genetically modifying cells to produce therapeutic proteins that can counteract the progression of Alzheimer's disease. While still in the preclinical or early clinical stages, it represents a novel approach in the field of regenerative medicine and neuro-oncology.
