Overview
Ad-VEGF-D is a replication-deficient adenoviral gene therapy designed to deliver the human Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor D (VEGF-D) gene. Developed primarily by Ark Therapeutics, it aims to stimulate angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis in ischemic or damaged tissues. The expressed VEGF-D protein binds to and activates VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3 on endothelial cells, promoting the formation of new blood and lymphatic vessels. Its primary clinical applications have included the treatment of refractory angina pectoris via intramyocardial injection and the prevention of stenosis in prosthetic vascular grafts (under the name Trinam) via perivascular delivery.
