Ad.hB7-1 autologous tumor cell vaccine is an experimental immunotherapy designed to enhance the body's immune response against cancer. The vaccine is produced by harvesting tumor cells from a patient and genetically modifying them using an adenoviral vector to express the human B7-1 (CD80) co-stimulatory molecule. B7-1 normally resides on professional antigen-presenting cells and provides a critical second signal to T-cells by binding to the CD28 receptor. By engineering the patient's own tumor cells to express B7-1, the vaccine aims to turn the cancer cells into potent stimulators of the immune system, bypassing the mechanisms tumors use to evade detection. This approach is intended to activate tumor-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes that can recognize and destroy malignant cells throughout the body.
