Overview
Ad26.COV2.S + influenza vaccine refers to a combination vaccine candidate developed by Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) designed to provide simultaneous protection against COVID-19 and seasonal influenza. The vaccine utilizes Janssen's AdVac technology, employing a replication-incompetent adenovirus type 26 (Ad26) vector. The COVID-19 component, Ad26.COV2.S (Jcovden), encodes the stabilized prefusion spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. The influenza component was an investigational Ad26-vectored vaccine (potentially VAC18193) designed to target multiple strains of the influenza virus. Clinical trials, such as NCT04975451, evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of this combination in healthy adults. In 2023, Janssen announced the discontinuation of its influenza and RSV vaccine programs, including the development of this combination candidate, as part of a strategic reprioritization of its infectious disease pipeline.
