Overview
Ad26.ZEBOV (brand name Zabdeno) is a monovalent, recombinant, replication-incompetent adenovirus serotype 26 (Ad26)-vectored vaccine developed by Janssen (a Johnson & Johnson company). It encodes the full-length glycoprotein (GP) of the Ebola virus (EBOV) Mayinga strain. Ad26.ZEBOV is indicated for active immunization to prevent Ebola virus disease caused by Zaire ebolavirus. It is administered as the first dose (prime) of a two-dose heterologous regimen, followed approximately 8 weeks later by MVA-BN-Filo (Mvabea) as the second dose (boost). The regimen received marketing authorization from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in July 2020 and prequalification from the World Health Organization (WHO) in April 2021, though the EMA authorization was withdrawn in May 2026 at the request of the manufacturer for commercial reasons.
