Overview
Ad4-PA-GPI is an oral, replication-competent adenovirus type 4 (Ad4) vectored vaccine developed by Emergent BioSolutions for the prevention of anthrax infection caused by *Bacillus anthracis*. The vaccine utilizes the Ad4 vector to deliver the gene for the anthrax Protective Antigen (PA). In this specific version, the PA is modified with a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor to ensure the antigen is displayed on the surface of the infected host cells, which is intended to enhance the immune response compared to secreted versions of the antigen. It is designed as a more convenient oral alternative to the currently licensed injectable Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed (AVA).
