Ad5-HIVgag

Ad5-HIVgag is a replication-defective recombinant adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector-based vaccine candidate designed for the prevention or treatment of HIV-1 infection. Developed by the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the vaccine incorporates the HIV-1 *gag* gene. Upon administration, the Ad5 vector transduces host cells, leading to the intracellular expression of the HIV-1 Gag protein. This process is intended to elicit a robust cellular immune response, specifically targeting HIV-infected cells through Gag-specific CD8+ T-cell activation. Clinical studies in China have evaluated its safety and immunogenicity, often as part of a heterologous prime-boost regimen involving DNA vaccines.
