Overview

Ad5CMV-p53 is a replication-impaired adenoviral vector carrying the wild-type p53 gene. It functions by delivering the p53 tumor suppressor gene to cancer cells, where the expressed p53 protein mediates cell-cycle arrest, DNA repair, or induces apoptosis, senescence, and/or autophagy depending on cellular stress conditions. The p53 gene is frequently mutated in human tumors, and replacing this gene via adenovirally-mediated gene therapy aims to restore normal p53 function and increase apoptosis in cancer cells.
