Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adalimumab-adaz is a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker and a biosimilar to the reference biologic Humira (adalimumab). It is a recombinant human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that binds with high affinity and specificity to soluble and transmembrane TNF-alpha, but not to TNF-beta (lymphotoxin). By neutralizing TNF-alpha, it inhibits the inflammatory cascade and the production of other pro-inflammatory cytokines and adhesion molecules. Originally developed by Sandoz as GP2017, it is commercialized in the United States through a partnership with Cordavis (a CVS Health company). It is approved for the treatment of various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and plaque psoriasis. The product is available in high-concentration, citrate-free formulations designed to reduce injection-site pain.
