Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Japan Biotechno Pharma's adalimumab biosimilar is a recombinant human IgG1 monoclonal antibody designed to target and neutralize tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). As a biosimilar of the reference product Humira, it works by binding specifically to soluble and membrane-bound TNF-α, thereby preventing the cytokine from interacting with its p55 and p75 cell surface receptors. This action downregulates the inflammatory cascade and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are central to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. The drug is primarily being developed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis as part of Japan Biotechno Pharma's portfolio of biopharmaceutical products intended for the Japanese market.
