Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sistema's adalimumab biosimilar is a monoclonal antibody currently in preclinical development for the treatment of systemic and autoimmune diseases. As a biosimilar to the reference product adalimumab, it is designed to bind specifically to tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and neutralize its biological function. TNF-α is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a central role in the pathogenesis of various inflammatory conditions. By blocking the interaction of TNF-α with its cell surface receptors (p55 and p75), the drug inhibits the downstream inflammatory cascade. The developer, Sistema-BioTech, has reported the creation of a clone-producer with a productivity of up to 4 g/L, marking an early stage in the manufacturing and development process.
