Overview

A generic topical gel combination of adapalene (0.1%) and benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) developed by Actavis Mid-Atlantic LLC for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Adapalene is a naphthoic acid derivative with retinoid-like activity that binds to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors (RAR-beta and RAR-gamma), normalizing the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells and resulting in decreased microcomedone formation. Benzoyl peroxide is an oxidizing agent with bactericidal and keratolytic effects, which releases free radical oxygen species to oxidize bacterial proteins in Cutibacterium acnes. This product was developed as a bioequivalent generic version of Galderma's Epiduo and was involved in a patent settlement in 2015.
