Overview

Adapalene + clindamycin is a fixed-dose topical combination medication used primarily for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Adapalene is a third-generation retinoid that acts as a retinoic acid receptor agonist; it modulates cellular differentiation and keratinization and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting keratinocyte proliferation and reducing inflammation. Clindamycin is an antibiotic in the lincosamide class that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria such as Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes), thereby reducing bacterial colonization and inflammation in acne lesions. The combination targets both abnormal skin cell turnover and bacterial infection associated with acne[5][4][3].
