AdC68 is a **chimpanzee adenovirus serotype 68** viral vector, primarily used as a gene carrier for vaccine development. It is phylogenetically and serologically distinct from human adenoviral vectors (such as Ad5 and Ad26), providing the advantages of high transduction efficiency, broad cell tropism, potent gene expression, low seroprevalence in humans, and good genetic stability. AdC68-based vectors have been used in the development of experimental vaccines for numerous infectious diseases (including influenza, rabies, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2), and as potential vectors for cancer vaccines. Key features include inducing robust T- and B-cell immune responses, suitability for prime-boost vaccine regimens, and limited pre-existing immunity in the human population, which can enhance immunogenicity and reduce vaccine ineffectiveness. AdC68 vaccines have demonstrated strong protection and immune response in preclinical studies (mice, hamsters, nonhuman primates), including single-dose efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 and prophylactic/therapeutic protection against influenza virus. Several derivative vaccines (e.g., AdC68-19S for COVID-19) based on AdC68 have entered clinical trial stages[1][2][3].
