Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AdCOVID is a single-dose intranasal vaccine candidate developed by Altimmune for the prevention of COVID-19. It is based on an adenoviral vector platform and was designed to stimulate both systemic (serum-neutralizing antibody, T cell) and local mucosal immunity (IgA antibodies, resident memory T cells) in the respiratory tract against SARS-CoV-2. Preclinical studies demonstrated robust immune responses and protection in animal models. The vaccine aimed to offer advantages such as needle-free administration, potential for blocking transmission, and extended room temperature stability. Despite promising early data, development of AdCOVID has been discontinued.
