Overview
Adderall XR is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant medication formulated as an extended-release capsule containing four different amphetamine salts: dextroamphetamine saccharate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, amphetamine aspartate monohydrate, and amphetamine sulfate. It is indicated for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. The drug works primarily by increasing synaptic concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine through inhibition of their reuptake into presynaptic neurons. This action enhances neurotransmission in brain regions involved in attention and impulse control. Adderall XR provides a double-pulsed delivery system for prolonged therapeutic effect throughout the day[1][2][4][5].
