Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Addmero is a brand of injectable carbapenem antibiotics developed by ADDUCO RBS, primarily featuring **meropenem** as the core active pharmaceutical ingredient. Meropenem is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal effect by penetrating bacterial cell walls and binding with high affinity to **penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)**, specifically PBP 2 and 3, thereby inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The Addmero product line includes single-agent meropenem (available in 500 mg and 1 g strengths) as well as fixed-dose combinations designed to overcome beta-lactamase-mediated resistance. **Addmero SB** combines meropenem with **sulbactam**, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, while **Addmero TZ** combines meropenem with **tazobactam**. These inhibitors protect the carbapenem core from degradation by certain bacterial enzymes, extending its clinical utility against multi-drug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative pathogens. Addmero is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including complicated intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bacterial meningitis.
