Adecatumumab is a fully human recombinant IgG1 monoclonal antibody that specifically binds to the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM, also known as CD326), a transmembrane glycoprotein highly expressed on most solid tumors, including breast, prostate, colorectal, gastric, ovarian, pancreatic and lung cancers. By binding to EpCAM on tumor cells, adecatumumab triggers antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), leading to direct killing of cancer cells. The drug was originally developed by Micromet Inc., later acquired by Amgen. Clinical development included studies in breast cancer, prostate cancer and colorectal cancer; however, development for these indications has been discontinued[1][2][4][5][6][7].
