ADEL-Y01 is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody designed to bind tau protein that has been acetylated at lysine residue 280 (acK280), a modification associated with tau aggregation and pathology in Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. By specifically targeting this acetylated form of tau, ADEL-Y01 inhibits the aggregation and propagation of toxic tau seeds, promotes microglial clearance of pathological tau, and has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models by preventing progression of tauopathy and improving neuronal viability. The drug is being developed as a disease-modifying immunotherapy for Alzheimer's disease by ADEL and Oscotec. It is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, immunogenicity, biomarker effects, and preliminary clinical activity in both healthy volunteers and patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease.
