Overview

This adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector is a gene therapy construct designed to express the human angiotensinogen (AGT) protein. Angiotensinogen is the sole substrate for the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), where its cleavage by renin is the rate-limiting step in the production of angiotensin peptides. In preclinical research, specifically in LDL receptor-deficient mouse models, this vector is used to investigate the functional roles of AGT domains in blood pressure regulation and the development of atherosclerosis. The construct allows for the study of species-specific renin-AGT interactions and the potential AngII-independent functions of AGT, such as its interaction with megalin.
