Overview

Adenosine phosphonoacetic acid is a synthetic nucleoside analog structurally related to ADP and classified as a purine nucleoside. It has been investigated primarily as an experimental compound in antiviral research and as a potential inhibitor of ribonucleotide reductase. The molecule acts by mimicking the structure of ADP and can bind to nucleotide-binding enzymes such as NDP kinase; however, it is only a weak inhibitor with limited substrate activity for human NDP kinase. Its therapeutic potential is considered limited due to low specificity and possible side effects from interference with cellular kinases[3][4]. There are no approved indications or marketed products containing this compound.
