Overview

Adenosylcobalamin is one of the two biologically active forms of vitamin B12 (the other being methylcobalamin). Also known as coenzyme B12 or cobamamide, it functions as a cofactor in radical-mediated 1,2-carbon skeleton rearrangements in cellular metabolism. It is essential for carbohydrate, fat and amino acid metabolism and plays a critical role in myelin formation and DNA synthesis. Adenosylcobalamin is primarily used as a nutritional supplement to prevent or treat vitamin B12 deficiency due to dietary insufficiency or malabsorption. It is also indicated for conditions such as pernicious anemia and certain neurological disorders related to vitamin B12 deficiency[1][2][3][4][5].
