Adenovirus-hepatocyte growth factor (Ad-HGF) is a gene therapy product that uses a recombinant adenoviral vector to deliver the human hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) gene. HGF is a multifunctional cytokine known for its roles in promoting angiogenesis, tissue regeneration, and cellular protection. The therapy aims to induce local expression of HGF in target tissues—primarily the heart—to stimulate new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), reduce apoptosis, and improve tissue repair following ischemic injury such as myocardial infarction or chronic ischemic heart disease. Preclinical and clinical studies have shown that repeated or fractional injections of Ad-HGF can enhance cardiac function and capillary density post-infarction compared to single injections. The drug has been developed primarily by the Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Beijing Haitai United Pharmaceutical Technology Development Co., Ltd., with clinical trials conducted for indications including stable angina, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and post-infarct heart failure[1][2][3][7].
