An inhaled recombinant adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector-based vaccine candidate developed by CanSino Biologics for the prevention of tuberculosis. The vaccine utilizes a replication-deficient Ad5 vector to deliver Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens, specifically the Ag85A protein, directly to the respiratory mucosa. This delivery method is intended to stimulate mucosal immunity in the lungs, providing a more targeted defense against M. tuberculosis infection compared to systemic vaccination. It is primarily being evaluated as a booster for individuals who have previously received the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. The candidate is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
