Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The adenovirus type 5 vector vaccine, known by its brand name Convidecia, is a single-dose viral vector vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics for COVID-19. It utilizes a non-replicating human adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) as a vector to deliver genetic material encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein into host cells. This process prompts the host cells to produce the spike protein, which then acts as an antigen, stimulating both humoral (antibody) and cellular immune responses against SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine has demonstrated efficacy in preventing moderate and severe cases of COVID-19 and can be stored at standard refrigerator temperatures (2°C to 8°C). It is administered intramuscularly, with an inhaled version, Convidecia Air, also available.
