Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Adenovirus Type-5 vector vaccine is a COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Globe Biotech Limited, a pharmaceutical company based in Bangladesh. This vaccine utilizes a replication-incompetent Adenovirus Type-5 (Ad5) platform as a viral vector to deliver genetic material encoding SARS-CoV-2 antigens into host cells. Once delivered, the antigens are expressed, stimulating both humoral (antibody-mediated) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It was one of three distinct vaccine platforms—alongside mRNA and DNA plasmid candidates—developed by Globe Biotech and was recognized in the World Health Organization's draft landscape of COVID-19 vaccine candidates at the pre-clinical stage in late 2020.
