Overview
AdGVVEGF121.10 is a replication-deficient adenoviral vector (serotype 5) encoding the 121-amino acid isoform of human vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-121). Developed by GenVec, it was designed to treat ischemic cardiovascular diseases by inducing therapeutic angiogenesis. The vector delivers the VEGF-121 gene directly to the myocardium or peripheral muscles, where the expressed protein stimulates the growth of new collateral blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow and reducing symptoms like angina. Clinical development, including the AGENT series of trials for stable angina, was ultimately discontinued after Phase 3 studies failed to meet primary efficacy endpoints.
