Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adhiron αC-8 is a preclinical-stage small conformational protein binder (12 kDa) based on a plant cystatin scaffold [OC 09.3]. Developed by researchers at the University of Leeds, it is designed to target the intrinsically disordered fibrinogen αC-region with high affinity and specificity [OC 09.3]. By binding to the fibrinogen αC-region, Adhiron αC-8 modulates fibrin clot structure, reduces clot stiffness, enhances whole blood clot contraction (producing smaller clots), and reduces thrombus size in vivo without affecting bleeding time [OC 09.3]. It is being investigated for its potential to regulate haemostatic imbalance and protect against venous thromboembolism [OC 09.3].
